They say that fashion comes and goes, but style is forever. And this enduring sense of style that emanates from our menswear collection is what Philippe Perzi Vienna prides itself on.
Many people ask us about our story and how Philippe Perzi Vienna started down the track selling high quality menswear. Well, like many success stories, from little things, big things grow. You should check out ‘The Story’ to read more, but essentially, The Perzi family has been expertly outfitting men from Perth to Prague, from Sydney to Stockholm and everywhere in between for decades.
Obviously, the “Vienna” in our brand name gives away our origins that stem from the Austrian capital, but we are most proud of the freedom and the appreciation for fine menswear that our adopted home of Australia has provided.
We have a strong connection to Australia, Perth in particular and during the halcyon days of the 1980s, particularly post 1983 when Australia won the America’s Cup, Johann Perzi was renowned for being a menswear doyen in the city of Perth. Famous sportsmen, businessmen, entrepreneurs and visiting actors from abroad flocked to Hans Perzi for all their sartorial menswear needs and arguably, also for Hans’ good banter.
Below we pay tribute to the Philippe Perzi Vienna story through a series of photos from past to present.
European Menswear hits Perth
In 1979, Johann “Hans” Perzi established “Hans Perzi – Gentlemen’s Clothier” located in Perth’s Trinity Arcade.
Hans Perzi – Menswear Maven of Perth

Broderick was known to be a big fan of the European style of menswear stocked in Hans Perzi’s boutique.
Let the good times roll
The heady days of the 1980s in Australia. An America’s Cup victory for Australia II provided a boost to Perth; economically, culturally and socially. Hans Perzi’s menswear store was popular as ever, even managing to gain sponsorship in a West Australian car race.
The decade long European Tour
In the late 1980s, the Perzi family returned to Vienna, where Johann originally had completed his tailoring apprenticeship under the watchful eye of C. M. Frank, renowned tailor to the royal families of continental Europe. Throughout the 1990s Johann moved on to pioneer a mark of individual flair and superior class sought after by European boutiques and department stores and worked with fashion houses such as Austin Reed, Burberry Europe, Daks Europe, Guy Laroche, Hugo Boss and van Laack. Soon after the turn of the decade, the Perzi family would return to Perth to do it all over again.
Bringing Menswear back: A new era
In 2005, Johann and his son, Philippe, set up a new menswear boutique in Perth’s London Court. The new store was called Philippe Perzi Vienna and it remained a popular choice for the finest menswear in Perth until Johann and his wife returned to their roots in Vienna.
Following the successful expansion of Philippe Perzi Vienna in Australia, where the brand has become synonymous with stylish menswear, Philippe Perzi Vienna re-emerged in a small and perfectly formed shop in Vienna’s exclusive first district. The red door leads you into an arched roofed salon with deep brown furnishings and woods echoing the sophisticated masculinity eschewed by the brand. Pops of colour in the form of silk ties in a variety of hues mix perfectly with crisp blue and white shirts, standing alongside luxurious leather belts and accessories.
